Have you ever felt drowsy, cranky, and tired after spending long hours in front of your computer? You may be suffering from what eye specialists refer to as the Computer Vision Syndrome(CVS). That tired and drained feeling that your eyes get after a day in the office happens to almost anyone; it has been estimated in a study that there are roughly 90 percent of office workers affected with CVS. If you think you have been suffering from CVS, consider a visit to the Roholt Vision Institute Clinic, a premier Ohio eye clinic, for a thorough eye assessment.

Common Symptoms of CVS

So you’re not sure yet if it’s really CVS that you’re suffering from? The most common symptoms include the following:

  • chronic headaches

  • fatigue

  • redness in the eyes

  • blurred vision

  • irritated eyes

  • double vision

  • polyopia

  • difficulty in refocusing

While Dr. Roholt would be able to provide you with a comprehensive eye care plan to reduce your symptoms of CVS, read on below for easy-peasy ways on how to prevent computer eye strain.

1. Reposition your computer.

Ideally, your computer should be an arm’s length away from your face and not off to either of your sides. Its center should be 4 to 8 inches below your eyes, allowing your neck to relax while using the computer.

2. Adjust lighting and display settings.

To reduce eye strain and fatigue, alter your brightness settings so it is at par with the brightness of your surroundings. You might also want to experiment with dimmer and brighter lighting by changing the angle of your lights and figure out which works best for you.

3. Reduce or alter glaring.

You can do this by applying anti-glare filters and adjusting window shades.

4. Blink frequently.

This will help avoid dry eyes. You might also want to consider using eye drops.

5. Take frequent eye breaks.

Keep in mind that your eyes are not meant for looking objects at a close distance. Start practicing the 20/20/20 rule where you take at least a 20-second break every 20 minutes by focusing on objects at least 20 feet from your workstation.

6. Lastly, have your eyes checked regularly.

A visit to Dr. Roholt’s clinic in Ohio will assess several eye problems such as whether you need to have a new prescription or if you need to have certain vision therapies to improve visual functioning.
