Dr. Philip Roholt | Dr. Brian Mathie
Refractive & Lens Implant Surgery
Philip C. Roholt, MD in Canton, Oh received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Minnesota. His ophthalmology residency was at the University of Florida. He was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1985 and was one of the first ophthalmologists in the country to be certified in the subspecialty of cataract/lens implant surgery (1989) and refractive surgery (1995) by the American Board of Eye Surgery (ABES). In March 2000 he received certification by the Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance (CRSQA), and most recently received LASIK certification by the American Board of Eye Surgery. He is the ONLY surgeon in Ohio to be LASIK certified by CRSQA, and the only eye surgeon in the country to be TRIPLE certified by ABES (lens implant, incisional refractive, and LASIK).
Dr. Roholt began his career in 1984 with the intention of building the premier refractive surgery/lens implant practice in the Midwest. He began performing RK for myopia in 1985, while perfecting his general eye surgery skills. Dr. Roholt has been at the vanguard of refractive surgery advancements in the United States. He was the first in Northeast Ohio to perform ALK for myopia and hyperopia in 1993 and received a national award for his landmark paper concerning corneal lamellar surgery in 1995.

-LASIK for myopia and hyperopia in 1996 - INTACS™ for myopia in 1999
-Zyoptix wavefront-guided LASIK in 2003 -Verisyse™ implant for high myopia in 2004
-Visian ICLtm for high myopia in 2006 -Zyoptix ACEtm LASIK 4-D eyetracking in 2009
-DALK (Moria) for keratoconus in 2009
Dr. Roholt formed Roholt Vision Institute(RVI) in 2001. His role in RVI is to continue the advancement of quality refractive, LASIK, lens implant and cataract surgery. Dr. Roholt along with Dr. Brian Mathie provide consultation/ management of eye disease.
Dr. Roholt was named "Ophthalmologist of the Year" by the Optometric Refractive Surgery Society in 1999.
Dr. Roholt loves to be with his wife and 4 (young adult) children. He attends Grace Baptist Church. He enjoys tennis, skiing and flying.

Dr. Brian Mathie has returned to his roots to take care of the patients of northeast Ohio. After graduating first in his class at Louisville High School, he attended the Ohio State University and studied microbiology. He is a graduate of the Ohio State University College of Optometry and completed a residency specializing in ocular disease at the Columbus and Chillicothe VA Medical Centers.
The son of a teacher, Dr. Mathie feels very strongly about education. From educating patients about various ocular conditions to lecturing nationally and internationally on the topics of ocular disease or refractive surgery, Dr Mathie appreciates the value of knowledge and enjoys sharing it with others. He is an adjunct faculty member with the Ohio State University College of Optometry and a senior examiner for the National Board of Optometry Clinical Examinations. He served as president of the Ohio Optometric Association in 2004. His extensive experience in treating glaucoma, ocular infections and inflammation, and managing cataract and refractive surgery patients allows for thorough patient explanations.
Dr. Mathie also appreciates the value of serving his community in nonmedical avenues as he is a Rotary member (past president), YMCA board member, active parishioner and Sunday school teacher, youth sports coach and school volunteer. Dr Mathie's hobbies include golf, tennis, basketball, photography and spending quality family time with his wife and three children.
